How Do All-On-4 Implants Work?
A typical dental implant works by being inserted into the jaw via surgery. A process called osseointegration allows it to fuse with the nearby bone tissue so that it effectively becomes part of your body (which adds stability to your new teeth and gives them a very natural feel). A restoration can be attached to implants that have successfully fused with the bone. As you might expect, All-on-4 relies on exactly four strategically placed implant posts that are used to hold a denture in place. Said posts can often hold temporary dentures while you’re waiting for the permanent ones to be made.
Am I A Candidate for All-On-4 Implants?
To determine whether or not you’re a candidate for the All-on-4 procedure, you can schedule a consultation with Dr. Rairigh. Because of how All-on-4 works, even patients who have already suffered bone degeneration in their jaws are often candidates for implants without the need for bone grafting. That said, there are other factors we’ll need to evaluate as well. Specifically, we’ll need to determine whether there is any gum disease present in your mouth; such an infection can easily cause dental implants to fail unless it’s treated beforehand. Also, All-on-4 is specifically for patients that need full dentures. If there are still plenty of healthy teeth in your jaw, another kind of implant procedure might be more appropriate.
What Are the Benefits of All-On-4 Implants?
Whether you currently have dentures or will need them in the future, you can enjoy the following benefits of the All-on-4 procedure:
- Your dentures will be more secure and stable, and you won’t have to worry about them losing their fit over time.
- The stimulation from dental implants will prevent the jaw from breaking down.
- Because bone loss doesn’t occur, there’s less need for your dentures to be relined later.
- The implants themselves are very durable and long-lasting; it’s not unusual for them to remain in your mouth for the rest of your life.
All-On-4 VS Traditional Dental Implants
With traditional implant techniques, it might take as many as six or eight posts to hold a full denture. All-on-4 is much more conservative in comparison. Furthermore, because fewer posts are needed, you can look forward to a shorter, easier recovery process. It’s also important to remember that thanks to the temporary dentures that can often be used with All-on-4, you can enjoy the benefits of implant-retained teeth much sooner than you normally would.
